5k design award is a web art competition, where each submitted artwork should be less than 5 kilobytes in total, as described in the original requirement at http://www.sylloge.com/5k/original.html:
All HTML, script, image, style, and any other associated files must collectively total less than 5 kilobytes in size and be entirely self-contained (employing no server-side processing).
The competition started in 2000 and survived for 4 years, before it was taken over to SIGGRAPH 2004. I haven't seen the competition again since. The site, http://www.the5k.org is now a dead site. Since it came out, there are several other competition with the same theme. One of them is web4096
My entries for the 5k competition are below. Ssome of them are only working in IE because changes from Netscape 4 to Netscape 6.
